Setting up a personal daily meditation routine:
Like cleaning our teeth, it needs to be done twice a day and it is this repetition that brings benefits.
The mental and physical benefits of meditation include lowered blood pressure, improved sleeping, reduced stress and increased longevity. Stress literally takes years off our lives due to the breaking off of telomeres (ends of chromosomes which could lead to cancer and early death) whereas meditation encourages their growth.
After two weeks we feel an overall sense of wellbeing and calmness, and after eight weeks structural changes have taken place in the brain. These enable us to have more control over our emotional reactions and we feel very clear, alert and on top of things.
We can look at sleep hygiene to include nutrition, exercise, yoga and a unique yoga nidra technique.
